Just a quick update on this extremely hot afternoon in NYC… The shows last week in Boston and New York were really great. After not playing in two years, we weren’t quite sure what to expect, but we couldn’t have been happier with the turn out and both of the venues were wonderful. Le Poisson Rouge is one of the best places we’ve ever played. It’s definitely our new favorite venue here.

Some news regarding two new releases of Rest:

We’ve seen many requests for the Collector Edition (limited to 30), wondering if it had already been released. The answer is no, it’s still in production, but we’re so close. We’ve put so much work into these and honestly, we’re going to have a hard time selling them because we want to keep them for ourselves! But seriously, they’re almost ready and we’ll announce it here when they are.

The US Vinyl Edition is almost ready as well. In fact, the test presses just arrived this weekend. These should be shipping mid-august. We’ll post some pictures of the beautiful packaging Kora Records did as soon as we get a copy.

Lastly, Textura recently asked us to do a top ten list. Instead of doing Gregor Samsa’s top 10, five of us each chose two songs we thought were worthy of the list. Gregor Samsa’s Top 2×5=10

as usual, creating albums for us is a long process. organizing 6-7 people living in 5 different states all with little money to spare is a challenge of epic proportions. but there is light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.

all of the basic tracking is finished. there’s still quite a bit of overdub work to be done, but it’s moving along nicely these days. the album consists of 10 songs and will be our longest to date clocking in at around 60 mins. all of these pieces were written through email and not a single rehearsal was had until 3 days before we entered the studio**. this forced experiment was quite a thrilling approach to writing and it’s safe to say that it resulted in somewhat of a departure from what we’ve been doing in the past.

we’ve received many requests asking about when the album is coming out and i’d like to address them all at once. release dates this early in the game are typically a jinx, but if all deadlines are met and things go well, we’ll see a release in late april. It’s about 8 months later than we’d hoped, but that’s how it goes with these projects. if gregor samsa ever starts writing solo acoustic albums, i promise to meet our projected release dates.

i suppose that’s it for now. one more thing, the brother’s bennett have welcomed the addition of a new member to the family: sarah nikki king joined us by way of marriage in sept, increasing the total number of related gs members to four. who better to play music with than the ones you love?

enjoy yourselves,

c

**i have to use this space to give a quick shout out to our boy alex aldi who has pretty much blown our collective minds with his supportiveness of this album. we’ll be happy to say that we knew him before he was famous.
